Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a tissue recovery technician to perform aseptic recovery of various tissues, transport donors, and manage biohazard materials. You will collect and ship samples, maintain records, and support QA processes in a hospital environment.

The role requires knowledge of sterile techniques, basic anatomy understanding, and willingness to travel to donor sites. Experience in an OR or eye bank setting is advantageous.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CTBS certification may be required per department if processing in eye bank.
• Certified Surgical Technician, EMT, Eye Bank Technician, RN or LPN are preferred for this role.
• Operating room experience is preferred.
• Basic understanding of kidney anatomy, surgical dissection technique, suturing, vascular surgery, cellular metabolism and laboratory values within six months of employment required.

Responsibilities

• Performs aseptic recovery of tissue including eyes, bones, ligaments, tendons, heart valves, vessels, and skin.
• Lifts, positions and transports donors at donor hospital using Surgical Sterile Technique.
• Collects blood samples from donors and properly labels, packages and ships to the receiving lab.
• Maintains donor and tissue records under QA Coordinator supervision.
• Packages and arranges for pick-up of biohazard material with proper documentation.
