Job summary

University of California, Davis—School of Medicine seeks a Junior Specialist to assist in studying Pax2 and Pax8 roles in eye development and adult homeostasis. This 100% full-time, up-to-two-year appointment involves close collaboration with the PI and independent project work after training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field (awarded before start date).
  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory research experience.
  • Experience with molecular biology assays (DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis).
  • Experience with lab animal (rodent) handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills for inventories and multiple simultaneous experiments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to cleanliness and detail sufficient for lab practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the PI in planning and executing research projects, data collection and quality control.
  • Conduct studies using molecular, genetic, genomic and neurobiological tools to study Pax2 and Pax8 in the eye.
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and contribute to manuscript preparation, abstracts and figures.
  • Support lab maintenance, safety, inventory, and paperwork; ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Present at departmental seminars or journal clubs and participate in departmental conferences.
  • Train and mentor undergraduate researchers participating in the lab studies.
