Job summary

VisionWorks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to prepare patients for exams, perform pre‑exam tests, and explain each step of the process. You will liaison between patients and Optometrists and help initiate the patient journey.

Responsibilities include assisting onsite and remote examinations, documenting results, preauthorising insurance, and coordinating with retail staff to finalize patient care. Training is provided, and flexibility to travel may be required.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred
• Medical office/business professionalism required
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience
• Training provided

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and gather information including Medical History and Ocular Health into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and eye examinations; explain tests and document results in EMR.
• Support remote eye exams: pre-testing, remote video conferencing, and additional testing as needed.
• Transition patient to retail staff with doctor recommendations.
• Explain MVC plans and benefits to patients; preauthorise insurance per SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books; contact no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow and assist during exams; answer clinical questions by phone or in person.
• Instruct patients on contact lens use and handling; place diagnostic lens orders and stock.
• Ensure clean environment and proper equipment coverage; participate in training and obtain required certifications.
