Job summary

Tangent Technologies, LLC is seeking an Extrusion Tool Designer to produce detailed drawings, solid models, and supporting documentation for extrusion dies and tooling systems to support our plastic extrusion operations.

The role emphasizes independent work and collaboration with process engineers and production teams to ensure designs meet performance, throughput, and quality requirements using SolidWorks and CAD tools.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent from vocational/trade school in a related field.
• 5+ years solid modeling/drafting experience using SolidWorks in a manufacturing setting.
• Knowledge of plastic processing; extrusion experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and produce detailed layout and assembly drawings for extrusion dies and tooling.
• Analyze interfaces between tooling components and extrusion equipment for fit, seal, and alignment.
• Perform design calculations and flow analysis (CFD) to determine die geometry and cooling configurations.
• Research materials, coatings, and wear surfaces for tooling longevity and quality.
• Prepare and maintain bills of materials and manage revision control.
• Update CAD drawings reflecting modifications or optimizations to tooling.
• Collaborate with process engineers, maintenance staff, and production managers to meet performance and throughput needs.
• Coordinate with toolroom, CNC machinists, and external vendors for timely delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
