Saint-Gobain/CertainTeed is seeking an Extruder Operator Trainee (Assistant Machine Operator) to support production in a vinyl siding facility. You will work under Trainers, progressing to an Extruder Operator Helper with a path to full Operator.

Shift options include 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM on a 2-2-3 schedule. Base pay is $26.33/hour with a $1.00/hour night-shift premium after training, plus potential bonuses and overtime.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing or industrial experience.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Technical School/Trade School education preferred.
• Forklift license preferred.
• Experience using hand tools and measuring devices preferred.
• Climbing stairs/ladder and operating equipment such as auto-banders and pallet jacks required.

Responsibilities

• Perform safety checks and ensure compliance with PPE and ISO/quality procedures.
• Package products to specification under supervision, including labeling, boxing, sealing, and palletizing.
• Support production by monitoring quality, line checks, and materials handling (pigments, regrind, ASA, hoses, silos, bins).
• Assist with changeovers, troubleshoot jams, manage scrap and regrind, maintain supplies.

Job description

Extruder Operator Trainee (Assistant Machine Operator) is responsible for safely supporting production line efficiency by packaging finished products and assisting with extrusion operations in a fast-paced vinyl siding facility.

The role requires maintaining an organized, 6S-compliant work area and accurately completing all required documentation to support product quality and traceability. Consistent attendance, reliability, and effective collaboration with team members are critical performance expectations.

During the training period, all tasks and processes will be performed under the direction of designated Helper Trainers and Supervisors. Once fully qualified, this position progresses to an Extruder Operator Helper “A” with the intention of future qualification as an Extruder Operator.

Shift: Day: Shift 6AM-6PM; Night Shift 6PM-6AM, 2-2-3 12-hour shift schedule. Will train on the day shift for 1-2 weeks prior to shift assignment.

Shift: 6p-6a, training for one to two weeks on 1st shift

Compensation: $26.33. Once training is complete, $1.00 additional will be provided once on the night shift.

Essential Duties:

• Perform all tasks in accordance with safety standards, procedures, and training. Conduct routine safety checks, report hazards or near misses immediately, and use required PPE. Maintain compliance with environmental and housekeeping standards, including proper waste disposal and keeping work areas clean and contamination-free.

• Package products to specification under supervision, including box assembly, labeling, product configuration, sealing, palletizing, slip sheet placement, and banding. Verify load stability prior to transfer to the warehouse.

• Support production line operations by monitoring product quality, assisting with line checks, and managing materials (pigments, regrind, ASA, hoses, silos, bins). Operate auxiliary equipment, clear jams, manage scrap and regrind, assist with changeovers, and maintain adequate packaging supplies.

• Maintain compliance with all quality standards by identifying, isolating, and reporting defects. Ensure products meet dimensional and visual standards while adhering to ISO 9001 and SPC procedures under supervision.

Environment

• This position is exposed to seasonal temperatures in winter and summer. Position is typical of a medium industrial environment, with a significant amount of standing, walking, and frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs.

This position begins with a 90-day probationary period. Upon successful completion and demonstration of full qualification, the role advances to a union position as an Extruder Operator Helper, with a defined pathway toward future qualification as an Extruder Operator.

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is required.

• Basic computer skills are required.

• Technical School / Trade School / Skilled Trade education is preferred.

• Forklift / Mobile Equipment License is preferred.

• Experience using hand tools and measuring devices is preferred.

• This job requires the use of a ladder and/or climbing of stairs, shoveling of material, and the use of equipment such as auto-banders and pallet jacks.

In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments/an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of the hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and, by nature, can vary based on company and individual performance and are not a guarantee.

Additional Pay Incentives for This Role Include:

• Shift Differentials ($26.33 plus 3rd Shift Differential of $1.00/hour)
