Job summary

Ithaca City School District is seeking an Extracurricular Dance Coach Supervisor to design inclusive dance experiences for middle school students, fostering creativity, belonging, and wellness.

You'll collaborate with families, staff, teaching artists, and community partners to expand access to dance education, ensure equitable participation, and coordinate performances and events in Athletics, Fine & Performing Arts settings. This is a part-time role with a paid stipend.

Position Title: Extracurricular Dance Coach supervisor

Brief Description:The Ithaca City School District seeks a dynamic and culturally responsive Extracurricular Dance Coach supervisor to expand access to dance education and enrichment opportunities for students. . The supervisor will develop, implement, and oversee inclusive dance programming that promotes student engagement, belonging, wellness, creativity, and cultural awareness. This position will work collaboratively with students, families, school staff, community organizations, and teaching artists to ensure that students have opportunities to experience dance regardless of prior experience, ability, financial circumstances, or participation inother extracurricular activities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and coordinate dance experiences that engage a diverse population of middle school students
  • Develop opportunities for students to explore movement, creativity, self-expression, and performance in a supportive environment.
  • Create pathways for participation that are accessible to students of all skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Encourage involvement from students who may not traditionally participate in athletics, music, theater, or competitive dance programs.
  • Foster a sense of belonging, confidence, leadership, and collaboration throughdance experiences.

Equity, Access, and Inclusion

  • Ensure that dance programming is accessible and welcoming to all students.
  • Identify and address barriers to participation, including transportation, cost, scheduling, language, and accessibility needs.
  • Collaborate with school staff to create inclusive environments that support students with diverse learning, physical, and social-emotional needs.
  • Promote equitable participation across all student groups and school communities.

Dance Education and Cultural Responsiveness

  • Work with the Fine and Performing Arts Director and Directors of Athletics and Wellness to support dance programming that embraces a variety of cultures, genres and styles.
  • Support the incorporation of instruction that honors and explores the historical, cultural, and artistic origins of dance forms.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to learn from local, regional, and nationally recognized dance artists and cultural practitioners.
  • Promote appreciation for cultural diversity through movement and artistic expression.

Community Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Build and maintain partnerships with local arts organizations, dance studios, cultural institutions, and community groups.
  • Coordinate workshops, artist residencies, performances, and community-based learning opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison between schools and community partners to expand dance opportunities for youth throughout Ithaca.
  • Support family and community engagement through performances, showcases, andspecial events

Cultivating Safe, Inclusive, and Positive Learning Environments

  • Collect and maintain accurate spreadsheets with emergency contact, medical and student information.
  • Hold creative team production meetings, with designers for recitals or events.
  • Coordinate and produce all dance recitals or events.
  • Maintain the flow of communication between the production team & the directors.
  • Problem solve with the production team & directors.
  • Communicate with students, caregivers and staff regarding rehearsals, events and important information or changes.
  • Ensure that the learning spaces are safe to use.
  • Ensure that staff are informed of emergency protocols and are trained for response.
  • Ensure that staff are trained in laws protecting students from bullying or sexual harassment.
  • Ensure staff receive training on maintaining professional boundaries, utilizing inclusive language, and adhering to district guidelines for positive and respectfulstudent-teacher interactions.
  • Ensure that community agreements are established and the learning environment upholds kindness, respect and inclusivity.
  • Instill student leadership within the dance groups to establish a positive learning community.
  • Engage in restorative practices when hurt or harm is done.
  • Uphold bully and harassment free learning spaces.
  • Establish community building protocols with students and staff.
  • Organize community building, social events.
  • Provide supervision during coach absences so that instruction continues

Program Evaluation and Sustainability

  • Monitor participation, engagement, and program outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Recommend improvements and opportunities for program growth.
  • Assist in identifying funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships that support long-term program sustainability

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with middle school-aged youth and love of children/youth.
  • A passion for youth development, community outreach, or artistic and athletic expression, along with a background in event producing.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills with students,caregivers and the community.

Preferred

  • Experience developing school-based arts programming.
  • Knowledge of multiple dance styles and movement traditions.
  • Experience collaborating with community organizations and teaching artists.
  • Experience planning performances, workshops, or arts events.
  • Familiarity with social-emotional learning and restorative practices.
