What You Will Do

• Assists the Project Specialist/Teacher with classroom responsibilities including but not limited to tutoring, lesson plan implementation, group activities, monitoring, counseling, discipline, and motor skill development
• Transports students to and from the service site and provided transportation for planned activities and field trips
• Assists with documenting and securing paperwork, records, and the care and maintenance of classroom, equipment, supplies, etc.
• Assists with the planning and implementation of planned activities, field trips, and other programming
• Serves/handles prepared food and snacks
• May assist Project Specialist/Teacher or Program Director as requested in areas relating to program communication

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Possession of credentials required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Assistant.

Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.

Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Illinois Residency Requirement

Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.
