Summers County Board of Education is seeking a Substitute After School Bus Operator to cover daily routes for the after-school program. The role involves safe student pickup/drop-off on designated stops and adherence to all program schedules.

Candidates must meet WV transportation regulations, maintain a satisfactory driving record, and pass criminal background checks and drug testing. This is a contract/hourly position for the 2025-2026 term, Monday through Thursday as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the school bus on established routes daily when afterschool program is in session.
  • Pick up and discharge students at designated stops according to schedule.
  • Comply with West Virginia School Transportation Regulations.
  • Follow Summers County Transportation Policy.
  • Report to schools and transportation office when unable to run.
  • Cooperate with principals and teachers of schools served.
  • Report incidents/maintenance issues to appropriate authority promptly.
  • Coordinate with transportation director and superintendent as needed.
  • Maintain other job-related duties as assigned.

DESCRIPTIOnS

Substitute After School Bus Operator

  • Position Type:
    Contract/Hourly Employment/ After School Programs
SALARY:

State Scale - Employee will be paid for the time they spend on the bus run, plus fifteen minutes before and after each run.

TERM:

After School Program - Monday-Thursday for the 2025-2026 school term as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Physically fit, according to the "West Virginia School Transportation Regulations"
  • 2. Satisfactory driving record according to appropriate state agency
  • 3. Meets all qualifications set forth in the "West Virginia School Transportation Regulations"
  • 4. Criminal Background Check conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-G-4
  • 5. Pass a drug test conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-H-1.
RESPONSIBLE TO:

Transportation Director, Superintendent or other designated school official

SUPERVISES:

All passengers who ride his/her school bus

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. The bus operator shall run his/her school bus over his/her established route or routes every day that the afterschool program is in session, according to his/her time schedule, picking up and discharging students at their designated stops.
  • 2. Shall comply with "West Virginia School Transportation Regulations"
  • 3. Shall comply with the Summers County Transportation Policy.
  • 4. Report to schools served and transportation office by phone, as possible, when bus won't be making its run.
  • 5. The bus operators shall work cooperatively with principals and teachers of schools they serve.
  • 6. The bus operators shall report to the proper authority all accidents, break downs, discipline problems and any other problems, as soon as possible.
  • 7. Reports incidents and work cooperatively with the school principal and assistant principal.
  • 8. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the transportation director and the superintendent.
  • 9. This job description remains in effect until revised or rewritten by the superintendent
