Job summary

ALTEN Mexico is seeking a skilled Plastics Engineer to support evaluation and implementation of advanced exterior components and manufacturing technologies. The role focuses on lightweight, Class-A systems such as fascias, claddings, underbody shields, and exterior panels, with polymeric and composite materials expertise.

You will evaluate thermal, aero, and acoustic performance and coordinate analyses, tooling trials, and supplier collaboration. Travel to Toluca/CDMX areas may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Polymer, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of automotive exterior, plastics, or composites experience.
• Experience with exterior polymers, injection or compression molding, and Class-A components.
• Knowledge of tooling feasibility, painting, bonding, fastening, GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance analysis, and CAD review.
• Preferred: carbon-fiber Class A, low-volume vehicles, SMC/prepreg/autoclave, NX/Teamcenter, CFD, mold-flow, thermal, or aero-acoustic experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate exterior concepts based on performance, appearance, mass, cost, investment, timing, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility.
• Lead Class-A feasibility reviews addressing surface quality, fiber print-through, gloss, warpage, and gating.
• Review CAD, drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and component interfaces; support DtM and DFA reviews.
• Coordinate thermal exposure, aerodynamic loads, airflow management, material expansion, wind noise, and aero-acoustic performance.
• Support suppliers, prototypes, tooling trials, validation, and risk closure.
• Develop technology comparisons and recommendations covering cost, mass, impact, maturity, and timing.
