Job summary

Midland County 4-H Youth Development Program is seeking a Program Assistant to support the 4-H Coordinator and Extension Agents in delivering youth education programs across Midland County. Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s preferred.
  • 2–3 years of experience in elementary or secondary education, early education, or child development.
  • Experience in curriculum development, training, and program evaluation.
  • Experience delivering educational material using various media (print and electronic).
  • Knowledge in creating promotional campaigns for programs and events.

Responsibilities

The Midland County 4-H Program Assistant works under the supervision of the Midland County 4-H Coordinator and assists County Extension Agents with 4-H responsibilities within the Midland County youth programs provided through the Midland County AgriLife Extension Office. The 4-H Youth Development Program Assistance will assist in management of outreach education to non 4-H youth as well as the 4-H clubs and projects. This position will train and assist teachers with classroom curriculum, evaluating the impact of the program with school age youth in Midland County. They will also support the 4-H program including but not limited to livestock programs, family & community health programs, leadership programs, summer camps, fund raisers, and community events. This position also includes maintaining and expanding an existing volunteer base, building community partnerships, and managing and expanding revenues including grant writing. The employee works in conjunction with the 4-H Youth Development Coordinator and County Extension Agents with 4-H responsibilities within Midland County Youth Development programs.

  • Implementing and evaluating research-based educational youth development materials and programs to reach a variety of target youth audiences.
  • Identify methods to increase outreach to targeted clientele and under-represented groups with technical subject matter.
  • Be creative in the use of technology as a teaching and learning tool. Cooperate and collaborate with the Extension Work Team as assigned, and staff to review resources that can be utilized in the delivery of youth programming.
  • Keep accurate records and be responsible for developing and interpreting impact data.
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension's affirmative action plans. Through public notifications and "All Reasonable Efforts" make educational programs accessible to all clientele without regard to age, ancestry, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, or handicap.
  • Support the 4-H School Enrichment Programs by contacting Midland County schools to determine participation. Set up and facilitate training sessions for teachers that will provide information about the programs and instruction on the use of equipment. Provide educational materials, equipment, and technical support to the instructors.
  • Facilitate 4-H event requirements, including but not limited to notifying schools of student absences, collecting and entering validation information, perceiving and processing entre fees, communicating with schools and 4-H families about events, and maintaining 4-H online system data.
  • Offer limited technical assistance to teachers upon request.
  • Performs other job-related duties as directed by supervisor(s).

  • Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work well within a deadline driven environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, particularly Excel, Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive.
  • Working knowledge of social media and graphic software, including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and Canva.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Individuals must have a valid DL and a dependable source of transportation.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must be insurable by agency insurance carrier, have valid Texas driver’s license, provide proof of insurance, and have adequate transportation. Must be able to receive a Texas Notary Commission and be an enrolled Texas 4-H Adult Volunteer within the 30 days of starting the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position involves sitting at a desk or other workstation, typing, filing, making copies, standing and communicating to other county personnel, elected officials, external agencies and the general public. Occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs. Willingness to handle and work with live organisms (insects, chicks, plants, livestock).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The position includes working in a well-equipped air-conditioned office, as well as outdoors in school gardens, livestock barns, and other educational settings. Must be willing to accommodate a flexible schedule as needed for programs and travel to trainings and 4-H related contests.
