Job summary

University of Kentucky in Central City, KY seeks an Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences to develop and deliver locally tailored programming across Muhlenberg County. You will plan, implement, and evaluate work plans that improve family well‑being and community living.

The role requires strong communication, teaching skills, and the ability to travel throughout the county, including evenings and weekends. A relevant degree is preferred and backgrounds checks may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Family & Consumer Sciences or related field preferred.
• Strong communication and teaching skills required.
• Experience in community education preferred.
• Ability to travel and work evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of work based on locally identified needs.
• Plan and implement educational programs focusing on healthy choices, nurturing families, aging gracefully, financial stability, and healthy homes and communities.
• Lead programs such as Kentucky Extension Homemakers to develop leadership skills.
• Provide resources in family and consumer sciences areas including nutrition, management, health, housing, and home-based businesses.
• Support dissemination of useful information on Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, 4-H and rural development as per statutes.
