Responsibilities

  • Carry out the Montgomery Public School health program in assigned schools.
  • Screen and assess vision, hearing, and refer students with deficiencies.
  • Establish and maintain contact with community agencies and clinics responsible for providing health care for students.
  • Investigate referrals and follow up; submit required reports.
  • Schedule home visits when appropriate.
  • Work with principal and teachers to plan and carry out first aid and safety education programs.
  • Train volunteers assisting in the MPS Health program.
  • Prepare presentations regarding the School Nursing Program to school and community organizations.
  • Participate in school in-service trainings.
  • Advise teachers in obtaining materials and resources to enhance health education.
  • Assist in disease control policies within assigned schools.
  • Conduct inspections and evaluations; furnish information to school officials and parents.
  • Maintain required records and submit periodic reports and evaluations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Administer medication to students.
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, co-workers, volunteers, and visitors.

Education

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Responsible for carrying out the Montgomery Public School health program in assigned schools
  • Schedules and conducts screening and assessments to detect problems in vision, hearing, and Documents and refers students with deficiencies in accordance with Departmental Regulations
  • Establishes and maintains contact with community agencies and clinics responsible for providing health care for students (Health Department Crippled Children Clinic, Lister Hill Clinic, Chisholm Health Clinic, ); learn and stays familiar with their policies and procedures
  • Investigate referrals regarding individual health problems and refer to appropriate agency for treatment; follow-up and submits any required reports
  • Schedules and conducts home visits when appropriate
  • Works with principal and teachers to plan and carry out first aid and safety education programs
  • Trains and works with volunteers assisting in the MPS Heath
  • Prepares and makes presentations regarding the School Nursing Program to school and community organizations such as PTA, Clubs, Civic Organizations, etc.
  • Participates in school in-service training programs as requested
  • Advises and assists teachers in obtaining materials and resources to enhance school health education programs
  • Assists in carrying out policies and procedures for control of communicable diseases within assigned schools
  • Conducts inspections and evaluations; furnishes information to school officials and parents
  • Maintains required records and compiles and submits periodic reports and evaluations regarding the status of programs within assigned schools
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Administers medication to students
  • Establish a positive relationship with parents, co-workers, volunteers, and other visitors

HOURLY RATE:

$35.00 per hour

(The funding for and duration of this position are finite, Pursuant to the Students First Act of 2011, Section 4(3)(b), tenure may not be gained by time served in this position)

SPECIAL NOTE: The person selected for this position must agree to a background check, be fingerprinted, and pay a $46.20 fee. This is required by law.

SPECIAL NOTE: For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be pro-rated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.
