Responsibilities

• Carry out the Montgomery Public School health program in assigned schools.
• Schedule and conduct screenings and assessments for vision, hearing, and refer students with deficiencies.
• Establish and maintain contact with community health agencies and clinics and understand their policies.
• Investigate referrals and follow up with appropriate treatment agencies; submit required reports.
• Schedule home visits as appropriate.
• Work with principal and teachers to plan first aid and safety education programs.
• Train and supervise volunteers assisting in the MPS Health program.
• Prepare and present information about the School Nursing Program to school and community groups.
• Participate in in-service training and advise on materials to enhance health education.
• Assist in disease control policies and procedures within schools.
• Conduct inspections, furnish information to officials and parents, and maintain program records.
• Administer medication to students and build positive relationships with parents and staff.

JOB DESCRIPTION: EXTENDED DAY RN NURSE

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Responsible for carrying out the Montgomery Public School health program in assigned schools
• Schedules and conducts screening and assessments to detect problems in vision, hearing, and Documents and refers students with deficiencies in accordance with Departmental Regulations
• Establishes and maintains contact with community agencies and clinics responsible for providing health care for students (Health Department Crippled Children Clinic, Lister Hill Clinic, Chisholm Health Clinic, ); learn and stays familiar with their policies and procedures
• Investigate referrals regarding individual health problems and refer to appropriate agency for treatment; follow-up and submits any required reports
• Schedules and conducts home visits when appropriate
• Works with principal and teachers to plan and carry out first aid and safety education programs
• Trains and works with volunteers assisting in the MPS Heath
• Prepares and makes presentations regarding the School Nursing Program to school and community organizations such as PTA, Clubs, Civic Organizations, etc.
• Participates in school in-service training programs as requested
• Advises and assists teachers in obtaining materials and resources to enhance school health education programs
• Assists in carrying out policies and procedures for control of communicable diseases within assigned schools
• Conducts inspections and evaluations; furnishes information to school officials and parents
• Maintains required records and compiles and submits periodic reports and evaluations regarding the status of programs within assigned schools
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Administers medication to students
• Establish a positive relationship with parents, co-workers, volunteers, and other visitors

HOURLY RATE:

$40.00 per hour

Section 4(3)(b), tenure may not be gained by time served in this position).

SPECIAL NOTE: The person selected for this position must agree to a background check, be fingerprinted, and pay a $46.20 fee. This is required by law.

SPECIAL NOTE: For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be pro-rated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.
