Job summary

The Utah Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) Expungement Section is seeking a BCI Criminal Information Technician II in Taylorsville, UT. This full-time, on-site role processes petition-based expungements, reviews records, and provides customer service to petitioners and attorneys.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in computer use and navigating multiple websites and databases.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Knowledge of Utah expungement procedures or ability to learn quickly.
• Strong research, analysis, and interpretation of records and legal documents.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Process petition-based expungement applications for completeness and accuracy.
• Conduct criminal history research using BCI systems and court records.
• Interpret Utah statutes, rules, and policies related to expungements.
• Make determinations based on laws and established procedures.
• Identify discrepancies in records and take appropriate action.
• Communicate with petitioners, attorneys, courts, and law enforcement.
• Provide professional customer service by phone, email, or in person.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy requirements.
• Stay current on changes to statutes, rules, and procedures.
