Job summary

Buncombe County Government seeks an Identification Technician II (Part-Time) to support the Identification Bureau and CJIS-related operations. The role involves fingerprint collection, data entry, and responsive public service in a high-security environment.

You will assist with concealed carry permits and background checks while ensuring privacy and accuracy. Ideal candidates have strong data-entry skills, customer service experience, and the ability to work with law enforcement partners.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; two years of experience in criminal justice or related field.
• Experience in data collection, records maintenance, and customer service.
• Familiarity with fingerprint classification systems and CJIS/NCIC knowledge.
• Notary public appointment required or obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Capture fingerprints using ink and electronic methods; classify using NCIC/Henry systems.
• Verify and catalogue arrest photos; research criminal histories for courts and agencies.
• Process petitions, expunctions, and concealed carry permits; maintain data accuracy in RMS/EDMS.
• Handle cash transactions and daily deposits; provide high-quality customer service.
