Job summary

Berkley Financial Specialists, a member of W. R. Berkley Corporation, is seeking an underwriting support professional in West Hartford, CT. The role focuses on handling pre-underwriting, preparing and maintaining account documentation, and ensuring accuracy across workflow systems.

You will collaborate with underwriters, brokers, and internal teams to resolve issues, drive data analytics, and support automation initiatives while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 1+ years in insurance underwriting support, operations, or related experience.
• Proficiency with Word and Excel; familiarity with OneNote, Power BI, Power Automate, workflow docs, UAT, and AI tools preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and documentation quality.
• Ability to interpret operational data, identify trends, and support analytics and automation initiatives.
• Strong communication with underwriters, brokers, and internal partners; capable of independent and team work.
• Good time management and problem-solving skills; willing to learn new tools and processes.

Responsibilities

• Support Express Underwriting workflows, including pre-underwriting prep and policy issuance.
• Perform pre-qualification and file prep for new business and renewals.
• Prepare and update account documentation, reports, quotes, binds, and renewals.
• Serve as SME and escalation point for BPO resources; guide on process and quality standards.
• Support onboarding, training, documentation, and QA for underwriting processes.
• Monitor workflow queues, turnaround times, and exceptions to meet service standards.
• Collaborate with underwriting, operations, finance, claims, IT to resolve account issues.
• Maintain accurate data in underwriting and policy systems for reporting and audits.
• Assist data analytics and reporting by validating data and identifying quality issues.
• Participate in automation and AI initiatives; document procedures and tests.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and data capture across processes.
• Support program business, notices, decline management, and mid-term processing.
• Develop relationships with internal partners, brokers, and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrate proficiency in underwriting support tasks with minimal guidance.
• Be available to assist with additional workflows and special projects as directed.
