Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform tasks safely in compliance with safety programs and procedures.
- Take responsibility for own safe work behavior and oversee the safe work behavior of others.
- Provide courteous and responsive interaction with vendors, contractors, coworkers, and crews, demonstrating teamwork and respect.
- Maintain elevator and facilities properly, safely, and cleanly through proper crew management.
- Communicate courteously and responsively with entities such as railroads, barge lines, ship agents, crews, longshoremen, contractors, WSDA, NQI, etc.
- Oversee unloading and proper binning of grain commodities by rail and barge, including planning, coordination, supervision, and communication.
- Manage ship loading, including blending to meet load requirements, along with planning, coordination, supervision, and communication.
- Monitor conveyor operations and HMIs to maintain specified levels and detect equipment malfunctions.
- Observe machinery operations, detect malfunctions, and communicate issues to the team.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent training.
- 1-3 years of experience with elevator equipment and operations.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to multitask and maintain accuracy.
- Ability to detect machinery issues through sight, hearing, smell, and communication.
- Experience in a leadership role overseeing tasks and delegating to employees.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing in Windows environment.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and regulations related to port and grain elevator facilities.
- Experience working with unionized longshoremen and millwrights preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot and make decisions swiftly based on new information.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands and Requirements
This role may be physically demanding and involves exposure to grain dust. Must work in such environments and perform tasks like walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and working at heights. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and ascend/descend ladders is required.
