Job summary

Hog Island Oyster Co. is seeking an Expo / Food Runner to be the essential link between kitchen and dining room at assigned Hog Island locations in California. This role coordinates the timing and sequence of dishes, checks for accuracy and presentation, and delivers each dish promptly to the correct guest.

A calm, communicative approach, strong attention to detail, and food-safety judgment are required. Weekend availability is required; prior expo/food-running experience and knowledge of oyster

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret kitchen tickets, table/seat numbers, and allergen notices.
• Clear, respectful communication with guests and coworkers; safety and allergen information understood.
• Strong attention to detail, sense of urgency, and ability to manage multiple priorities during busy service.
• Guest-focused, team-oriented approach with dependable follow-through.
• Familiarity with food-safety practices or willingness to learn HIOC procedures and allergen protocols.
• Regular and reliable attendance, including ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate timing and sequence of dishes leaving the kitchen to ensure accurate service.
• Verify each dish matches the ticket, with correct table, modifiers, and temperature.
• Communicate status, delays, substitutions, and allergies with kitchen and service teams.
• Deliver dishes promptly to guests, maintaining safety and presentation.
• Maintain clean expo line and complete opening/closing duties as assigned.
• Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety requirements.
