Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a supplemental Experimental Mechanic at the Mossville, IL Tech Center to assemble, adjust, and dismantle engines for testing, including diesel and gaseous-fuel variants. You’ll work from engineering models and blueprints to ensure precise fit and function.

The role emphasizes safety, hands-on fabrication, and test setup, with tools provided and a first-shift schedule. Relocation is not offered; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years full-time diesel engine service and repair experience.
• 2-year technical degree in diesel power technology or Caterpillar Dealer Service Technology.

Responsibilities

• Work from Pro-E models, VisView models, blueprints and verbal instructions.
• Assist install builds in various stages on gaseous fuel and diesel engines.
• Fit cooling, air, hydraulic connections and wiring harnesses for test devices.
• Install and remove engines from a testing cell and check assembly accuracy with precision tools.
• Make adjustments to valve train, gear train, fuel, cooling and oil systems.
• Assemble a complete unit or subassemblies and aid in fabricating piping and wiring harnesses.
