Job summary

RoadStar LLC in Clayton, OH (just outside Dayton) is seeking an experienced OTR truckload dispatcher/load planner to join our operations team. You will independently manage a board of CDL-A drivers, plan loads, and maximize utilization, service, and revenue.

The role emphasizes sourcing brokered freight, real-time decision making, and strong communication with drivers and brokers. Compensation is competitive, with benefits including health insurance and PTO.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on OTR/truckload dispatch or load-planning experience
• Experience independently planning and managing multiple CDL-A drivers
• Experience sourcing, negotiating, and booking brokered freight
• Strong working knowledge of CDL Hours of Service (HOS) and OTR trip planning
• Ability to determine whether a driver can legally and realistically complete a load
• Ability to plan trucks several moves ahead
• Understanding of rates, deadhead, revenue per mile, utilization, and positioning
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Professional communication with drivers, customers, and brokers
• Ability to manage multiple active trucks and loads simultaneously
• Strong computer proficiency for multi-system navigation
• Experience with transportation management systems (TMS)
• Experience with Samsara or similar ELD/GPS platforms
• Experience with DAT or similar freight/load boards
• Able to learn TruckMate quickly

Responsibilities

• Dispatch and manage a board of OTR CDL-A drivers
• Plan trucks from load to load based on location, HOS, appointments, home time, available freight, and equipment
• Source and book brokered freight using DAT and other load boards
• Find strategic reloads/backhauls to position trucks for upcoming loads
• Evaluate loads based on rate, mileage, deadhead, timing, HOS, and fit within the truck plan
• Negotiate rates with freight brokers
• Minimize empty miles, downtime, and unnecessary truck sitting
• Monitor trucks, driver hours, loads, ETAs, and service issues
• Communicate dispatch instructions and updates to drivers
• Provide customers with load updates and notify delays
• Coordinate pickups/deliveries/reloads/home time
• Troubleshoot breakdowns, appointment issues, and HOS constraints
• Assist with after-hours operational issues
• Maintain load and dispatch information in the TMS

RoadStar LLC is looking for an experienced OTR Truckload Dispatcher / Load Planner to join our operations team in Clayton, OH, just outside Dayton.

We are looking for someone with at least 3 years of hands-on truckload dispatch/load planning experience who can independently manage a board of drivers, plan freight, understand HOS, communicate with customers and brokers, and actively source brokered freight when needed.

This is a hands-operations role. You will be responsible for planning trucks from load to load and making real-time decisions that maximize utilization, service, and revenue.

Core Responsibilities

• Independently dispatch and manage a board of OTR CDL-A drivers
• Plan trucks from load to load based on location, HOS, appointments, home time, available freight, and equipment
• Use DAT and other load boards to source and book brokered freight when customer freight is unavailable
• Find strategic reloads/backhauls that position trucks for upcoming customer loads
• Evaluate loads based on rate, mileage, deadhead, timing, HOS, and fit within the overall truck plan
• Negotiate rates and communicate directly with freight brokers
• Minimize empty miles, downtime, and unnecessary truck sitting
• Monitor trucks, driver hours, loads, ETAs, and potential service issues throughout the day
• Communicate directly with drivers regarding dispatch instructions, schedules, and changes
• Provide customers with load updates and proactively communicate potential delays
• Coordinate pickups, deliveries, reloads, and driver home time
• Troubleshoot breakdowns, appointment issues, HOS constraints, and other operational problems
• Assist with after-hours operational issues when necessary
• Maintain accurate load and dispatch information within the TMS

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on OTR/truckload dispatch or load-planning experience
• Previous experience independently planning and managing multiple CDL-A drivers
• Experience sourcing, negotiating, and booking spot-market/brokered freight
• Strong working knowledge of CDL Hours of Service (HOS) and OTR trip planning
• Ability to determine whether a driver can legally and realistically complete a load based on available hours and appointment times
• Ability to plan trucks several moves ahead rather than simply dispatch one load at a time
• Understanding of rates, deadhead, revenue per mile, utilization, and positioning
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Professional communication with drivers, customers, and brokers
• Ability to manage multiple active trucks and loads simultaneously

Strong computer proficiency is required for this position. Our dispatchers work across multiple systems throughout the day and must be able to navigate technology quickly and efficiently.

• $55,000–$57,500 per year, based on experience

Compensation: $55,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
