Job summary

W3Global is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer / Transportation Planner in Tysons Corner, VA to join our transportation team on-site. The role focuses on delivering traffic engineering and transportation planning solutions, supporting project delivery and client relationships.

Ideal candidates have 3–6 years of hands-on experience with traffic studies, signal timing, MOT plans, and multimodal design. AICP certification or P.E. license is preferred and beneficial for advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
• 3-6 years of progressive experience in Traffic Engineering and/or Transportation Planning.
• Proficiency with Synchro / SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM.
• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoTurn, ArcGIS.
• Strong knowledge of MUTCD, traffic signal design, and MOT plans.

Responsibilities

• Conduct transportation studies and traffic impact analyses.
• Support traffic data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with project team management and provide technical project support.
• Develop intersection capacity analyses.
• Develop traffic signal timing plans.
• Assist with geometric design.
• Participate in parking demand studies.
• Support multimodal transportation assessments.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients and regulatory agencies.
• Attend client meetings and assist with project presentations.
• Support and mentor junior staff.
• Contribute to business development initiatives.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer / Transportation Planner to join their transportation team. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in traffic engineering and transportation planning while supporting project delivery, client relationships, and the continued growth of the transportation services portfolio.

This position will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and report to the Director of Transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field
• 3-6 years of progressive experience in Traffic Engineering and/or Transportation Planning
• Proficiency with:

  • HCS
  • SIDRA
  • VISSIM
• Advanced proficiency with:

• Strong knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of hands-on traffic engineering and/or transportation planning experience, strong proficiency with traffic analysis software, and practical experience with traffic impact studies, intersection analysis, signal timing, MOT plans, and transportation design. Candidates with an AICP certification or P.E. license will be especially competitive.
