Job summary

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CA) is seeking a skilled machinist to set up and operate precision machines to manufacture, repair, and finish vehicle parts. You will read blueprints, follow CAD/CAM/CNC instructions, and ensure tolerances are met using GD&T and precision measuring tools.

Role requires four years of journey-level experience or a four-year apprenticeship, plus a valid California driver license.

Qualifications

• Four years' journey-level machinist experience or completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program.
• Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Proficiency with GD&T, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Valid California Class C driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machines and precision tools to cut, shape, and finish parts.
• Disassemble, repair, and reassemble components to meet tolerances.
• Operate lathe for turning shafts, axles, gears, and related features.
• Operate milling machines to produce flat, curved, and irregular surfaces.
• Verify dimensions using micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Read blueprints and CAD/CAM/CNC instructions to plan operations.
• Maintain safety compliance and clean parts before/after machining.
