Job summary

Benchmark Electronics Inc in Concord, CA is seeking an experienced Machinist to set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and related equipment. You will read blueprints, determine feeds and speeds, and perform precision machining to tight tolerances.

This role requires 6+ years of complex machining experience, may include CNC programming, and involves ensuring quality and accuracy across machined parts, with a safety-sensitive environment and shift 2 schedule.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or apprenticeship preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6+ years of experience in complex machining operations; may include CNC programming.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate lathes, millers, shapers, grinders, planers and power drills.
• Work from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions.
• Perform highly diversified machining operations such as boring, turning, facing, reaming, grinding, milling and tapering.
• Perform work on machined parts, forgings and castings with varying complexity in mature and critically dimensioned parts.
• Determine and maintain proper operational sequences; perform necessary mathematical calculations.
• Determine appropriate feeds and speeds for all operations.
• Check own work and maintain tolerances as tight as +/- .00005 to +/- .001.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints and manufacture parts from drawings.
• Bench work including filing, deburring, grinding, lapping, indexing, scraping and fitting.
• Check own work by setups and gauges; interpret gauges and size blocks.
• Occasionally decide fits and tolerances; perform all essential functions.
• Set-up, operate, alter, repair and plan own work.
• Perform complex checks with air gauges, electro-limit gauges and size blocks.
• Usually work to tolerances of +/- .001 +/- .0005.
• 6+ years of experience in complex machining operations; may include CNC programming.
