Job summary

South Peninsula Hospital’s Family Birthing Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care in private suites. The role includes potential work in MedSurg/Acute Care, patient education on breastfeeding, and leadership responsibilities as charge nurse as needed.

Qualifications include Alaska RN license, BLS/ACLS/NRP; PALS within 6 months. Prior OB/mother-baby experience preferred; EHR proficiency and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Alaska
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP; PALS within 6 months for OB/ICU roles
• Experience in labor & delivery or mother-baby unit preferred
• Knowledge of evidence-based infant feeding practices and baby-friendly initiatives

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care during labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care in private suites
• Float to MedSurg/Acute Care as needed
• Educate patients and families on childbirth, newborn feeding, and skin-to-skin practices
• Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout perinatal period
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and staff to ensure safe, compassionate care
• Develop and revise patient care plans; perform admission and skin assessments
• Administer meds and IVs; perform wound care, catheterization, and postop support
• Supervise CNAs and other staff; serve as charge nurse when assigned
• Support safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives
