Job summary

SMS group USA in Valparaiso, IN, is seeking an experienced Millwright to refurbish and repair blast furnace equipment. You will learn our equipment, grow with the team, and contribute to maintenance and upgrades.

Pay is negotiable based on experience and qualifications listed. The role requires reading drawings, using overhead cranes and hand tools, and maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience with refurbishment on parts in a job shop or similar environment.
• Knowledge of disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts.
• Knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Ability to read prints and drawings.
• Experience with overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques.
• Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with precision and accuracy.
• Experience with heavy mechanical assemblies preferred.
• Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) preferred.
• Understanding of blast furnace equipment is a plus.
• Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Education: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training and/or on the job experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience (10+ years preferred) with refurbishment / reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools is required
• Ability to read prints and drawings is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques is required
• Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with precision and accuracy is required

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

• Remain in a standing or walking position for extended periods of time
• Stoop, kneel, crouch and bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

Schedule

• Full-Time, 8-hour shift
• Monday to Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm, with 30 minutes for lunch (unpaid)
