Job summary

Lonza in Bend, Oregon is seeking an Experienced Microbiologist to contribute to the development and manufacture of life-changing therapies in a regulated laboratory setting. This site-based role emphasizes real-time collaboration and precision to ensure high-quality products for patients worldwide.

You will design, validate, and transfer microbiological testing methods, support release activities, and lead environmental monitoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or another related scientific discipline.
• Experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech regulated lab environment.
• Knowledge of microbiological techniques including bioburden, sterility, and endotoxin testing.
• Experience with environmental monitoring in cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments.
• Understanding of cGMP and quality requirements.
• Experience supporting validation, qualification, or contamination control activities.

Responsibilities

• Design, validate, and transfer microbiological testing methods in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
• Support testing and release activities for raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
• Lead environmental monitoring activities and analyze data to help reduce contamination risks.
• Maintain, qualify, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure reliable results.
• Author, review, and approve technical documents, including protocols, procedures, and reports.
• Support audit readiness and represent the microbiology function during inspections and client visits.
• Mentor team members and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the laboratory.

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or another related scientific discipline.
• Experience working in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated laboratory environment.
• Knowledge of microbiological techniques, including bioburden, sterility, and endotoxin testing.
• Experience with environmental monitoring in cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments.
• Understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and quality requirements.
• Experience supporting validation, qualification, or contamination control activities.
• Availability to work a 4x10-hour shift schedule that includes one weekend day.
