Job summary

Lonza Pharma & Biotech in Bend, Oregon is seeking an Experienced Microbiologist to contribute to development and manufacturing of therapies in a highly regulated lab.

You will design microbiology testing methods, support release activities, and lead environmental monitoring to minimize contamination, while maintaining equipment and documenting procedures. This role emphasizes collaboration, accuracy, and adherence to cGMP standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech regulated lab environment.
  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques (bioburden, sterility, endotoxin).
  • Experience with environmental monitoring in cleanrooms/manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, validate, and transfer microbiological testing methods per regulatory and quality standards.
  • Support testing and release activities for materials and products.
  • Lead environmental monitoring and data analysis to reduce contamination risks.
  • Maintain, qualify, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment for reliable results.
  • Prepare and review technical documents (protocols, procedures, reports).
  • Support audit readiness and represent microbiology during inspections.
  • Mentor colleagues and drive continuous improvement in the lab.

This is a fully site-based role. What you will do
  • Design, validate, and transfer microbiological testing methods in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Support testing and release activities for raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
  • Lead environmental monitoring activities and analyze data to help reduce contamination risks.
  • Maintain, qualify, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure reliable results.
  • Author, review, and approve technical documents, including protocols, procedures, and reports.
  • Support audit readiness and represent the microbiology function during inspections and client visits.
  • Mentor team members and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the laboratory.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or another related scientific discipline.
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques, including bioburden, sterility, and endotoxin testing.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring in cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and quality requirements.
  • Experience supporting validation, qualification, or contamination control activities.
  • Availability to work a 4x10-hour shift schedule that includes one weekend day.
