Job summary

Reno Police Department invites qualified law enforcement officers to join their team through lateral entry. After acceptance, officers proceed to the Reno Lateral Academy and enter the Police Training Officer (PTO) Program upon successful completion.

Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, making arrests, preparing reports, and enforcing laws. Strong emphasis is placed on community relations, court testimony, and collaboration with other agencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two years patrol experience or NNLEA completion.
• Nevada POST Category 1 Certificate or reciprocity with Nevada.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas by foot, car, motorcycle or other means.
• Makes arrests for violations and escorts prisoners.
• Prepares reports and responds to complaints; cooperates with other officers.
• Enforces traffic regulations and directs traffic; assists in emergencies.
• Maintains community relations through meetings and training.
• Investigates crimes and interviews witnesses; collects evidence and testifies in court.
