Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Yellow Iron Diesel Technician/Mechanic in New Jersey to inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on heavy equipment and diesel trucks. You will operate the machinery you service, support on-call breakdowns, and collaborate with fellow technicians across shifts.

The role requires 5+ years of relevant experience, ability to diagnose with diagnostic software, and owning your tools.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States.
Valid driver's license; CDL a plus.
At least 5 years of experience in duties.
Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus.
Computer diagnostic experience as diesel technician a plus.
Able to meet physical and safety requirements.
Must provide own tools.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment (yellow iron, diesel trucks).
Perform preventative maintenance services and required repairs.
Estimate time and material costs and requisition parts.
Conduct safety checks on vehicles and document findings.
Complete paperwork using fleet maintenance software.
Review or assign repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Maintain a clean, safe work area per safety protocols.
Collaborate with other technicians; no direct reports.
Assist senior technicians on project work.
