Job summary

Interstate Waste Services in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on heavy trucks and equipment. PMI and major component rebuilds are included.

3-5+ years’ class A/B mechanic experience and strong computer diagnostic skills are required; waste-industry or heavy equipment experience is a plus. Safety procedures knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years’ experience as class A or B mechanic.
• Computer diagnostic experience is required.
• Prior experience from waste management industry or heavy equipment/yellow iron dealership experience is a plus.
• Trade school or similar training is a plus.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance inspection (PMI) and troubleshoots major components.
• Documents parts usage, repair times and service activities with fleet maintenance software.
• Assists in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment and vehicles.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.
