Job summary

City of Tumwater is seeking a Lateral Firefighter to join its Fire Department. Candidates must have at least 36 months as a full-time, paid firefighter and hold IFSAC Firefighter I, WA or national EMT, and CPAT completed within three months of start.

The role involves fire suppression, rescue, EMS, training participation, community risk reduction, equipment maintenance, and incident reporting, operating under a defined chain of command.

Qualifications

• Accredited high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid Washington State Driver License.
• Successful completion of the CPAT prior to appointment.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Preferred: Current Emergency Medical Technician certification and firefighter certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provides fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical response, and protective services.
• Responds to fires, hazardous materials incidents, accidents, natural and human-caused disasters, and other emergencies.
• Participates in training, pre-incident planning, fire and injury prevention, public education, inspections, and incident documentation.
• Operates and maintains fire apparatus and equipment; ensures station readiness.
• Completes timely incident reports and uses Department computer systems and protocols.
