Job summary

DPI Inc. is seeking an experienced machinist to set up CNC lathes, install and align workholding, and verify first-piece production on single-turret horizontal lathes with Fanuc controls. The ideal candidate reads prints, maintains tight tolerances, and troubleshoots setup issues while ensuring quality documentation.

Experience in a family-owned precision shop environment is valued; programming knowledge is welcome but not required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience independently setting up CNC lathes.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Ability to work with close tolerances and machining practices.
• Identify and correct setup or process problems.
• Experience with tool and offset adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Perform CNC lathe setups from established programs and setup documentation.
• Install and indicate workholding, tooling, jaws, and fixtures.
• Set tool and work offsets.
• Safely prove out programs and complete first-piece inspections.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
• Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, thread gauges, and other inspection equipment.
• Make offset and tooling adjustments to maintain part quality.
• Troubleshoot tooling, setup, and machining issues.
• Complete required production and quality documentation.

Programming knowledge is welcome but not required — the priority is speed and accuracy on setup, offsets, and tooling changes on single-turret horizontal lathes.

Machines, controls and software

Single-turret horizontal CNC lathes, including models with Y-axis and Y-axis/sub-spindle capability, running Fanuc controls.

What we’re looking for

• Previous experience independently setting up CNC lathes
• Strong blueprint-reading and inspection skills
• Ability to work with close tolerances
• Working knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining practices
• Ability to identify and correct setup or process problems

Preferred:

• CNC programming or program-editing experience

Pay, benefits and schedule

Pay is up to $35 per hour, full-time. DPI Inc. offers health insurance, PTO, a Simple IRA, ongoing training, employee lunches and outings, and a fully air-conditioned facility.
