Job summary

Alter Behavioral Health is seeking a dedicated Care Path Manager (Case Manager) in Dana Point, CA, to lead client care in a residential setting. You will supervise care coordinators, coordinate treatment plans, and ensure safety and compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates bring leadership experience in behavioral health, strong client advocacy, and ability to manage crises while coordinating across clinical teams. Position offers full-time hours with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in behavioral health, case management, or residential treatment.
• At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid California Driver’s License required.
• CPR & First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain).
• Must pass Live Scan fingerprint clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Competitive Compensation: $70,304 - $73,000/year (DOE)

Location: You will be assigned to one of our Orange County residential facilities located in Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Capistrano Beach, or Irvine.

What You’ll Do

Client Care & Treatment Oversight

• Provide compassionate, individualized support to clients throughout their treatment journey
• Monitor client progress and ensure alignment with treatment goals
• Collaborate closely with clinical staff to support therapeutic programming and client outcomes

Client Advocacy

• Represent client needs in treatment planning and interdisciplinary discussions
• Support continuity of care and coordination across services
• Promote adherence to program structure, expectations, and care plans

Crisis Intervention & Safety

• Respond promptly and effectively to behavioral or emotional escalations
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and involve clinical leadership when appropriate
• Ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic residential environment

Staff Leadership & Oversight

• Supervise, coach, and support Care Coordinators in daily responsibilities
• Provide real-time feedback, performance guidance, and mentorship
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and ongoing staff development

Program Operations & Compliance

• Oversee daily residential operations to ensure efficiency and consistency
• Maintain accurate documentation and support audit readiness
• Ensure compliance with DHCS, DSS, and Joint Commission standards

Program Coordination

• Facilitate house meetings and support admissions and discharges
• Coordinate communication between departments to ensure continuity of care
• Support implementation of policies, procedures, and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in residential treatment or mental health program operations
• CADAC-1 or equivalent certification
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with EMR systems

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree preferred
• At least three (3) years of experience in behavioral health, case management, or residential treatment
• At least one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Ability to safely and effectively interact with clients experiencing psychiatric symptoms

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License required
• CPR & First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Must pass Live Scan fingerprint clearance
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking, standing, bending, and movement throughout residential facilities
• Ability to navigate multi-level homes, including stairs
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Ability to safely intervene in crisis situations using trained techniques
• Ability to operate computers and documentation systems

Compliance

• Successful Live Scan clearance
• Completion of required health screenings, drug testing, and TB testing
• Compliance with DHCS, DSS, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA, and applicable California employment laws
