Job Summary

Our Baker is a key player in ensuring our bakery products look and taste exceptional. In addition to providing outstanding guest service, you'll be responsible for using quality ingredients to craft a delicious selection for our guests. As a Team Member, you'll be part of a team focused on building lasting relationships with customers by understanding and exceeding their needs. Your primary responsibility as a Bakery team member will be preparing and baking products to ensure only the freshest are available.

Job Description

• Experience Required: Successful completion of job-specific skills assessment; 6 to 12 months of experience or completion of the Giant Eagle Apprenticeship program
• Experience Desired: Prior experience in bakery or related industry
• Education: No high school diploma required
• Lifting Requirement: Up to 50 pounds
• Age Requirement: At least 18 years old

Job Responsibilities

• Perform bench work according to established scratch procedures when necessary
• Prepare and shape products according to recipes
• Bake products with specified time and temperature
• Prepare bakery products following established recipes, including scratch recipes
• Insert products into proof box, set controls, and close door to ensure proper size and shape
• Prepare and fry donuts following established procedures
• Store products in freezer to maintain freshness
• Address customer questions and resolve issues to meet guest needs
• Demonstrate suggestive selling techniques and offer samples when appropriate
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers and helping them locate products, answering questions, and making suggestions
• Prioritize safety in all tasks for team members, guests, and products
• Bake products for bakery cases and displays, rotate stock, and follow code dating procedures to ensure freshness
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment, work areas, and utensils to meet sanitation standards
• Accurately record special orders for bakery products
• Follow safety and sanitation procedures, emergency protocols, and housekeeping standards
• Understand ingredients and their purposes in baking
• Assist with unloading deliveries and maintaining bakery backroom, cooler, and freezer efficiency
• Prepare baking ingredients for operations, including all scratch recipes
• Assist in other areas as needed
