Job summary

The Indian Health Service seeks an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to support chairside procedures, radiography, and infection control while delivering culturally respectful, high-quality care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, and a federal background investigation is required; candidate must pass E-Verify and have U.S. Citizenship.

Qualifications

• Must be radiographers certified and meet credentialing standards.
• Education: full 4-year dental assistant or dental hygiene program with radiation coursework.
• GS-05 requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04; GS-06 requires one year of specialized experience at least.
• Background investigation and E-Verify are required.
• U.S. Citizenship and REAL ID-compliant ID required.

Responsibilities

• Restores teeth after preparation.
• Provides chairside assisting and anticipates dentist's needs for instruments and materials.
• Performs intra-oral procedures such as prophylaxis, sealants, and temporary restorations.
• Performs radiological procedures and dental laboratory tasks (models, trays, casts).
• Receives and prepares patients and maintains records of appointments, examinations, treatment and supplies.
