Job summary

Indian Health Service seeks an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to deliver chairside support, restorations, radiography, infection control, and patient education to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. A REAL ID is required by May 7, 2025.

The role includes duties such as preparing materials, performing intra‑oral procedures, radiographic work, and maintaining patient records, with background checks and compliance requirements for federal employment.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04.
• Education: Completed a full 4‑year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene including radiation physics.
• Combination of Education and Experience: Meets 100% of qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Restores teeth after preparation.
• Chairside assisting and anticipates dentist's needs for instruments and materials.
• Performs intra-oral procedures such as prophylaxis, sealants, temporary fillings, and stainless steel crown cementation.
• Performs radiological procedures and dental lab work: models, trays, bite rims, casts, impressions.
• Receives and prepares patients and maintains treatment records.
