O'DONNELL FAMILY DENTISTRY is seeking an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to support the dentist in a fast-paced practice. The role involves patient prep, radiography, records, and assisting with restorative procedures per state scope.

You will maintain sterilization, equipment, inventory, and charts, deliver patient education, and ensure HIPAA compliance. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a team-oriented attitude are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• License / training as required by state/county/local licensing agency.
• X-ray certification as defined by licensing agency.
• Current Expanded Functions Dental Assisting license as defined by licensing agency.

Responsibilities

• Sets up/breaks down rooms and operatories for a safe environment.
• Prepares patient for treatment, sterilizes instruments and furniture, sets up trays.
• Takes radiographs, panoramic x-rays, digital scans and 3D images as prescribed.
• Records medical and dental histories and vital signs.
• Fabricates and fits orthodontic appliances and materials.

• Manages lab cases, maintains logs, prepares charts for patient safety.

Job description

The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) assists the Dentist, sets up equipment, prepares the patient for treatment, and keeps records. May perform some dental hygiene procedures. May complete certain restorative procedures within the scope and limitations set by the state within which the EFDA is licensed.

Working under the Direction of the Dentist and Operations Leader, the tasks and responsibilities of a Lead Managing Dental Assistant include but are but not limited to:

• Sets up/breaks down rooms and operatories to ensure a safe environment for the patients and doctors.
• Prepares patient for treatment, sterilizes instruments and dental furniture, sets up trays and prepares materials
• Takes quality / acceptable radiographs, x-rays, panoramic x-rays, digital scans and 3D images as prescribed by the Dentist
• Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients
• Fabricates and fits orthodontic appliances and materials for patients such as retainers, wires, or bands
• Provides post-operative instructions to patients as needed
• Instructs patient in oral hygiene and plaque control programs when appropriate
• Manages lab cases, keeps equipment maintenance logs up to date and prepares charts in advance for patient safety, office efficiency and the patient experience.
• Enters relevant / important information and keeps records into the practice management in support of / under the direction of the dentist
• Orders and monitors dental supplies and equipment inventory
• Utilizes tools skills and talents to assist patients in making the best possible decision for their needs and helping them get healthier and happier.

• Continually build and nurture a positive working relationship with the Operations Leader, Dentist(s), Hygienists and other staff
• Strictly follow HIPAA and company standards to protect Protected Health Information (PHI) and patient personal and financial information including credit card, social security numbers etc.
