  • Place and carve restorations; place sealants; assist with clinical emergencies.

POSITION SUMMARY

A Lead Expanded Functions Dental Assistant performs a variety of patient care, laboratory duties, supply ordering and office duties. This position will assist the dentists during treatment and examinations, place sealants and restorations, oversee clinical resident support staff and additionally oversee the clinical team as a whole to provide assistance to the office manager.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the Dental Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

While living and demonstrating our Core Values, the Lead Expanded Function Dental Assistant will:

  • Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up trays, prepare materials and assist dentist during dental procedures
  • Take and record dental/medical histories and record vital signs
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts
  • Pour, trim and polish study casts, fabricate custom impression trays, clean and polish removable appliances and fabricate temporary restorations
  • Assist dentist in management of dental/medical emergencies
  • Instruct patients in oral care and plaque control systems
  • Provide pre and post-operative instructions prescribed by dentist
  • Place and carve restorations
  • Select and manipulate gypsums and waxed
  • Perform coronal polishing
  • Dental charting
  • Ensure dental clinic support is fully staffed
  • Create and complete DA/EFDA clinical competencies
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are understood and in use
  • Oversee all ordering adhering to clinic budget
  • Create and schedule clinical trainings
  • Assisting dentists with any office/clinical needs
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Record treatment information in patients' charts
  • Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth
  • Maintain emergency kit
  • Perform routine maintenance of dental equipment
  • Participate in community outreach programs
  • Participate in holiday rotation (1-3 per year)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Meet The Wright Center for Community Health and its affiliated entity The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education EOS© People Analyzer Tool
  • Buy in and experience working in the EOS® model (strongly preferred)
  • Mission-oriented; represents the enterprise in a professional manner while demonstrating organizational pride
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Radiologic certification by the PA State Board of Dentistry or National Radiology Certification by Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
  • Minimum 3 years EFDA experience, public health a plus
  • EFDA State Certification required
  • Coronal Polishing Course Certification as required by State Board of Dentistry
  • DANB CDA National Certification preferred
  • Experience with dental health maintenance, use of dental technology, infection control, health promotion, performing diagnostic procedures, etc.
  • CPR Basic Life Support Certification
