The Duke Health and Fitness Center seeks an Exercise Specialist (part time) to deliver clinical and fitness programming within the Duke Health system. You will monitor vital signs, lead group classes, and provide personalized training, integrating with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities include using Epic and other software for documentation and communication, with a schedule of Mondays noon–2 and Saturdays 8–4 and additional hours possible.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field.
• BLS certification; ACSM certification within 1 year for Level II.
• ACLS preferred and ACSM Clinical Certification as Exercise Specialist for Level III.
• Level II requires 1 year of applicable experience; Level III requires 2 years.

Mansioni

• Monitor vital signs (HR, BP, O2 sat, symptoms, glucose) and document in Epic.
• Deliver group fitness instruction on land and in pool.

General Description of the Job

The Duke Health and Fitness Center stands as a medically oriented fitness facility providingan extensive range of fitness and clinical programming and delivering comprehensive services to our local community. Our team of Exercise Physiologists/Specialists is seamlessly integrated into the Duke Healthcare system, enabling us to deliver secure clinical care in collaboration with the broader healthcare team. Duke supports professional growth with continuing education support. Duke Health also offers a comprehensive benefit package to support employee’s health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, symptoms, and blood glucose levels, ensuring accurate documentation within Epic, Duke’s electronic medical records system.
• Deliver expert instruction in group fitness classes, both on land and in the pool.
• Offer individualized personal training services to a diverse client base, accommodating a range of health histories and objectives.
• Maintain regular communication using fitness center technologies such as club Management software, Epic, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Teams.
• Work hours Mondays 12-2 + Saturdays 8-4pm with more opportunities available to add personal training hours.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field required.

Experience

Level II: Minimum 1-year applicable experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Level III: Minimum 2 yrs. applicable experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Level I: BLS certification

Level II: BLS; ACSM certification (must attain certification within 1 year of hire)

Level III: BLS (ACLS preferred), ACSM Clinical Certification as Exercise Specialist required
