Job summary

Rush Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, IL is hiring a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) to support the cardiology team with exercise testing and individualized exercise prescriptions to improve cardiovascular health.

You will work closely with physicians, nurses and rehab staff, perform stress tests, educate patients, and contribute to clinical decision-making through data interpretation. Full-time schedule, Shift 4, 8-hour days.

Qualifications

  • Exercise Physiology or related field with experience in all aspects of exercise and pharmacological stress testing and cardiac rehab programs.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Good interpersonal communication and self-directed work style.

Responsibilities

  • Performs cardiac diagnostic stress testing, including treadmill, pharmacological and nuclear tests and resting ECG.
  • Assesss patient care level and contraindications to diagnostic stress testing.
  • Accurately interprets rest and stress 12-lead ECG and documents abnormalities.
  • Communicates critical findings promptly to physicians and other health care providers.
  • Produces safe, accurate exams within scope of practice and follows infection control guidelines.
  • Proficient knowledge and use of EPIC EMR and MERGE systems for stress reports.
  • Maintains patient history confidentiality and safety, and collaborates with cardiology team.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Pay Range: $25.20 - $35.60 per hour

Summary

Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) Department plays a vital role in the assessment, implementation, and monitoring of exercise-based interventions. This position supports the multidisciplinary cardiology team by providing expertise in exercise physiology, conducting diagnostic exercise testing, and developing individualized exercise prescriptions to improve cardiovascular health and physical function. The CEP works closely with cardiologists, nurses, sonographers, and rehabilitation specialists to ensure safe and effective care. Responsibilities include performing exercise stress tests, educating patients and families on physical activity guidelines, and contributing to clinical decision-making through data interpretation and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Performs cardiac diagnostic stress testing, which includes treadmill, pharmacological and nuclear stress test and resting ECG.
  • Ability to assess level of patient care and any contraindications to performing diagnostic stress test.
  • Correctly performs resting and stress 12 lead ECG according to departmental policy and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately interpret rest and stress 12 lead ECG and document any abnormalities
  • Reports critical findings promptly interpreting Cardiologist and conveys appropriate, relevant information to physicians and other health care providers.
  • Produces safe, accurate and complete exams within scope of practice.
  • Follows infection control and patient safety guidelines
  • Performs all duties in compliance with HIPPA, Joint Commission hospital and department standards and policies.
  • Uses proper hand hygiene, two patient identifiers and time out. Reports any concerns to proper personnel.
  • Proficient knowledge and use of EMR (electronic medical record) EPIC system.
  • Proficient knowledge and use of MERGE system for stress reports
  • Proficient knowledge of cardiac rehabilitation telemetry monitoring, Scottcare system.
  • Obtains accurate patient history and ensure patient confidentiality and safety are maintained.
  • Completes all work in a timely manner
  • Operates, cares for and maintains equipment and ensures procedure room readiness following infection control standards.
  • Acts as a team player and works cooperatively with other staff members throughout the organization.
  • Is proactive suggesting department and hospital improvements
  • Participates in quality improvement/quality assurance
  • Provides training and performance feedback to coworkers
  • Understands the value of teamwork and team building and applies these principles.
  • Willingly accepts additional responsibility and/or other duties assigned.
  • Works in partnership with patients, families, coworkers and physicians to enhance the costumer experience in delivery of exceptional care.
