Job summary

Reston Hospital Center is seeking an Exercise Physiologist to educate and guide patients with heart disease and related conditions in cardiac rehabilitation and community programs. Responsibilities

• Develops and modifies exercise prescriptions and demonstrates exercises.
• Leads and supervises patients in cardiac rehab classes.
• Provides supervision for participants in the Fit for Life program.

Job Summary

The exercise specialist educates and counsels patients with heart disease, diabetes, and other diseases, the at-risk population, the community, and hospital employees regarding exercise, smoking cessation, nutrition, stress management, and healthy lifestyles. They develop and modify exercise prescriptions, lead and demonstrate exercise, and supervise patients in exercise classes. The exercise specialist delivers comprehensive care and treatment of referred cardiac patients in Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation and provides supervision and support for individuals participating in the Fit for Life community exercise program.

• Possesses knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and common cardiac and pulmonary conditions which impact the prescription of physical activity.
• Ability to describe current concepts of risk factor mechanisms, identification, and modification.
• Demonstrates knowledge of ACSM exercise guidelines for low, moderate, and high risk populations.
• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to identify common arrhythmias and the consequent necessary patient interventions.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• (AACVRP-CCRP) Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional must be obtained within 2 years of employment start date
• Bachelors Degree, or Masters Degree
