Responsibilities

Berkley Aspire seeks an experienced Executive Underwriter with strong commercial surplus lines expertise to join our team. The position can be based in Scottsdale AZ, Glen Allen VA, West Chester OH, or remotely.

The Executive Underwriter provides technical support in the Home Office Underwriting Department on special projects, product development, underwriting audits, training, and research. The role also includes mentoring and training the underwriting team.

Specific Duties

• Handle account referrals beyond individual underwriter authority
• Make sound risk and pricing decisions to promote profitable growth
• Mentor and coach new and less experienced team members
• Develop and facilitate technical training sessions
• Assist in defining underwriting appetite and developing guidelines
• Support new product development and enhancements
• Participate in business planning and trend research
• Lead underwriting audits to ensure quality and integrity
• Coordinate with Claims and Legal for form and endorsement finalization
• Lead and participate in projects as assigned

Other functions may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
• Experience in commercial surplus lines, particularly general liability
• Ability to manage multiple projects effectively
• Deep knowledge of insurance principles, rates, rules, and procedures
• Proven mentoring and training skills
• Strong research and project management capabilities
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
