• You have at least 7+ years of experience in commercial underwriting (Construction, Casualty, Builder's Risk preferred).
• You are comfortable with ambiguity.
• You possess a strong work ethic, are self-motivated, and can manage multiple tasks/projects.
• You have exceptional interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
• You have strong sales and marketing skills, capable of positioning accounts and closing deals.
• Underwriting duties include developing and negotiating price, coverage, terms, and conditions for new and renewal business, targeting accounts fitting Shepherd’s underwriting appetite.
• You hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

About The Role

Shepherd's underwriting approach emphasizes client-centric, efficient processes, leveraging technology and data for quick, informed decisions tailored to client needs.

• Proven success in marketing, producer management, new business development, and negotiation at all levels.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Solid risk analysis background, experience with construction and/or casualty underwriting.
• Knowledge of compliance, coverage, products, and pricing strategies.
• Ability to adapt and be creative in a fast-paced startup environment.

This is an onsite position in New York City, San Francisco, or Dallas-Fort Worth. The on-target earnings (OTE) range is $185,000 to $228,000, depending on experience, location, and performance. Benefits include stock options, unlimited paid time off, and comprehensive health coverage.
