InterContinental DC - The Wharf is seeking an Executive Steward to supervise day‑to‑day stewarding operations, ensure sanitation and equipment readiness, and manage storeroom orders. You will oversee the stewarding team and coordinate with outlets, banquets, and maintenance to ensure exceptional service.

The role requires ongoing attention to safety, inventory control, and adherence to company policies, with availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with at least two years in stewarding or kitchen operations.
  • At least one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service operation preferred.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

As our new Assistant Director Human Resources, you will supervise day‑to‑day operations of the stewarding department, responsible for total maintenance and sanitation in all food production service areas, control storeroom orders, issue china, silver and glass, and ensure all food and beverage outlets have sufficient equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Control and analyze cost, breakage, and quality of support provided to outlets, banquets and other areas.
  • Monitor condition and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Control expenses in accordance with the established budget and participate in the preparation of the annual stewarding operating budget.
  • Maintain procedures for security of inventory.
  • Supervise day‑to‑day operations and assignments of the stewarding staff; communicate objectives, expectations, and schedules.
  • Enforce policies and procedures.
  • Recommend and initiate disciplinary or other staffing/HR‑related actions in accordance with company rules and policies; alert management of potentially serious issues.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments (Catering, Banquets, Outlets, Maintenance, Guest Services).
  • Interact with guests to ensure their total satisfaction.
  • Interact with suppliers regarding orders and invoices.
  • Educate employees on current safety issues and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Inform management of hazardous situations, emergencies or threats to the security of guests, employees or hotel assets.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance and repairs; ensure equipment is prepared and operational for the following day’s work.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of experience in stewarding, kitchen maintenance, kitchen operations or similar, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service operation preferred.
  • Ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing and moving around the kitchen.
  • Handling food, objects, products and utensils.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, reasoning, motivation, organizational and training skills.
  • Reading and writing skills for scheduling and inventory monitoring.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Benefits

The salary range for this role is $85,000.00 to $90,000.00 for jobs performed in Washington, DC. The role may also be eligible for bonus pay. A comprehensive benefits package includes paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), and room discounts.
