Job Summary:

Bern's Steak House Executive Sous Chef will be responsible for ensuring exceptional food preparation for all guests and developing a strong, consistent team environment aligned with the directives of the Executive Chef and Bern's Steak House.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist in maintaining a motivated, positive team environment
  • Assist with staff training
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations
  • Maintain professionalism with team members, managers, and guests
  • Handle scheduling and daily team issues
  • Monitor workflow and adjust staffing accordingly
  • Ensure proper food prep and execution
  • Maintain proper uniform and attire
  • Communicate positively with team
  • Provide fair coaching and counseling
  • Foster inter-departmental relations
  • Work efficiently and effectively, including flexible shifts
  • Assist in all kitchen functions and support where needed
  • Work under pressure and long hours standing
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, floors, and storage areas
  • Possess knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment
  • Communicate issues to Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef
  • Follow Serv-Safe sanitation standards and safety procedures
  • Maintain orderly work areas and proper hand hygiene
  • Stock and organize kitchen supplies
  • Assist with food deliveries and inventory
  • Present a professional appearance and grooming
  • Maintain ownership attitude towards restaurant operations
Education & Experience:
  • High School diploma or higher
  • Minimum five years culinary experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with technology such as tablets, email, spreadsheets
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
  • Effective communication skills
  • Normal vision range
  • Work long hours as needed
  • Lift 25-50 lbs
  • Use knives and kitchen machinery safely
Mental Demands:
