Job summary

The City of Boca Raton is seeking an experienced Recreation Services Director to provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the Recreation Services Department, overseeing parks, libraries, aquatics, golf, community centers and more.

This role aligns departmental goals with the City’s strategic plan, engages with community partners, manages budgets, and drives performance through data and public engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration/Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.
• 10 years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, parks, community services, or related public-sector environment.
• 5 years in a senior management or executive-level role.
• Direct experience directing complex recreation programs, facilities, operations, and services through subordinate managers.
• Experience in strategic planning, budget administration, personnel management, policy development, and community engagement.
• Experience managing operating and capital budgets, contracts, partnerships, and service improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the Recreation Services Department in alignment with city plans.
• Serves as the city's principal advisor on recreation facilities, community wellness, and industry trends.
• Leads departmental operations through subordinate managers, ensuring organizational effectiveness and customer service.
• Shapes and monitors the department’s strategic plan, performance measures, and service standards.
• Directs planning, design, construction, renovation, and lifecycle management of recreation facilities and projects.
• Coordinates capital improvement planning with City departments and external partners.
• Develops partnerships with educational institutions, nonprofits, and community groups.
• Represents the City before boards and professional associations; prepares reports and policy recommendations.
