Job summary

City of Aurora in Illinois seeks a Plan Examiner to conduct comprehensive reviews of construction plans for residential and commercial structures to ensure compliance with building, fire, NFPA, and related codes. This is an on-site role in the Development Services Center.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in preparing and/or reviewing construction plans and specifications, with a pre-hire

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in architecture, fire protection engineering, MEP engineering, and/or structural engineering.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive plan reviews for residential and commercial structures to determine code compliance.
• Act as Code Official on a project-by-project basis and oversee plan reviews and inspection determinations by inspectors.
• Assist in supervision of inspectors and provide technical guidance, code interpretations, and problem solving.

Education
