Job description

The Executive Pastor is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for the ministries, staff, and operations of Fayetteville First Baptist Church in order to advance the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. He will partner closely with the Senior Pastor to translate ministry vision into effective ministry systems, ensuring theological faithfulness, organizational health, and ministry alignment across the church. The Executive Pastor will serve as a biblically qualified shepherd to the congregation and staff, equipping and leading ministry leaders to accomplish their goals while cultivating a culture of accountability, unity, and gospel-centered service. The Executive Pastor is an "among the people" role, not a "closed door office job" role. While the Executive Pastor will oversee ministry systems, his primary focus will be the spiritual health, effectiveness, and unity of the church’s leaders and ministries. Through leadership development, strategic planning, and day-to-day management, he will help steward the church’s people and resources for faithful and effective Great Commission ministry.

Major Responsibilities
Primary Leadership Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high-level view of the church, always evaluating its direction and effectiveness.
  • Observe congregation trends, including attendance, engagement, and financial stewardship.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and mentor (as needed) staff members, ensuring alignment with the church’s mission and strategic effectiveness in their ministry area.
  • Foster a positive staff culture and set a standard for behavior, teamwork, and productivity.
  • Align all aspects of church operations for ministry effectiveness.
  • Lead personally the church’s outreach, assimilation, and missions planning.
  • Work closely with the deacon body to provide guidance and input on congregational care efforts.
  • Plan and execute overall church strategy, providing long-term vision alongside the Senior Pastor.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Oversee administrative and operational systems that support effective ministry, including policies, procedures, and internal communication.
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders on planning, calendar coordination, and resource allocation.
  • Provide support and leadership in areas such as budgeting, stewardship, and facilities as delegated by the Senior Pastor. While this position is not personally managing church finances, they are expected to directly manage those who are personally engaged in that work.
  • Preach or teach as needed and assist in worship services, ordinances, and special church events.
  • Represent the church in denominational, associational, and community relationships as appropriate.
  • Participate in the recruitment, vetting, calling, and onboarding of ministry and administrative staff members.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Senior Pastor.
Other

This is a general statement of job responsibilities; however, the Executive Pastor is expected to perform other duties as required to support the mission and ministries of Fayetteville First Baptist Church including job duty changes due to pandemics or any other unexpected change in operations.

Supervision

Supervises the ministry staff and administrative staff and is involved in hiring processes for each.

Education and Experience
  • Committed Christian with a clear calling to ministry, actively growing in a personal walk of faith in Jesus Christ, and holding to the church’s doctrine (Baptist Faith & Message 2000) without reservation.
