Job summary

City of Steamboat Springs is seeking a Director of Parks and Recreation to lead a large system including 31 park sites, river botanic park, core trail, and major facilities. The role emphasizes strategic leadership, budget oversight, and community programs.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in related field with several years in senior leadership, and a master’s degree/ CPRP is advantageous. In-person schedule with some evenings and weekends; two-day remote may be allowed after probation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Parks/Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field.
• Seven years progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation with three years in management.
• Master’s degree and CPRP certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead Parks & Recreation with strategic planning across divisions.
• Create and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
• Coordinate community partnerships and advisory boards.
• Represent City at civic events and City Council meetings.
• Ensure safety, environmental stewardship, and accessibility across programs.
