Job summary

The City of Steamboat Springs seeks a Director of Parks and Recreation to provide strategic leadership and executive oversight of 31 park sites, trails, and facilities. You will direct a diverse portfolio of programs, amenities, and capital projects while upholding city values and safety standards.

This role manages a team of staff and seasonal workers, collaborates with boards and partners, and reports to the City Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Parks/Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation programs including three years of supervisory experience at a management level.
• A master’s degree and CPRP certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Leads high-performing teams, guides community engagement, and champions resource stewardship to deliver outstanding municipal services.
• Models and promotes the city’s mission, vision, and values while prioritizing safety and innovation.
• Provides coordinated leadership, direction and strategic planning across the diverse operational divisions of Parks & Recreation.
• Supervises direction and delivery of all departmental programs, services and community events, maintaining standards and accountability.
• Manages the employee lifecycle and performance expectations fostering growth, inclusion and achievement.
• Represents the City’s broader interests advancing Parks & Recreation initiatives and interdepartmental collaboration.
